Janis Mars Wunderlich Janis Mars Wunderlich’s busts and creatures are intensely active and many are populated with smaller clinging figures scrambling across their surfaces. Her sculptures are handbuilt using thin, slab-like coils of clay. The glaze surfaces are built up by multifiring layers of underglaze, slips and overglaze. Her imagry captures the exhaustion and exhilaration of life both as a creative artist and busy parent. Her children inspire her with their imaginative minds and animal-like energy, continually feeding her thoughts with their “fairy tale-like quirkiness”. Wunderlich holds a BFA from Brigham Young University, Provo, UT and received her MFA from Ohio State University, Columbus, OH in 1995. |
